Getting to Know How I Started My Paint Journey, Plus Some Tricks and Tips!

How I Started

p.s. I cannot find any of my childhood paintings.

I love painting since I was a child and used to join painting competitions but never wins. Since young, I realize that I love mixing colors, and now, I can claim myself to have good taste in color.

However, I never went to a painting school or course. Hence, my journey of painting stops at the age of 7. Nevertheless, I began to be interested in art and crafts since then.

How It Then Continued

Painting inspired by Katrina Crouch

Due to the boredom of pandemic restriction. I began to start developing new hobbies, including start painting. This particular piece is the beginning of all the paintings I have made. This painting is made from water-color paints (the starter's paint, because it's the simplest and easiest to use). However, this painting was not a serious attempt to mine but worth developing.

My First Original Piece

Here is my first serious attempt at painting. The model of this painting is my lovely dog. She died a year ago, and I made this as a reminder for me of her.

This painting was painted with watercolor paint and was actually my second attempt; my first one did not satisfy me.

Below is my first attempt. Excuse the photobomb!

One lesson that I got from this is: never give up to try but don't overdo them!

Trying Out Portraits

Painting a portrait was not an easy and pleasant one. This painting above was painted with acrylics and taken about two and a half months to finish, with tons of struggle and stress.

I was not a hundred percent satisfied with this one, to be honest, because I did not know that my expected result is actually can be achieved by oil paint.

Nevertheless, I have learned many lessons through this piece: mixing skin tones, intensifying contrast, etc.

My True Path: Oil Painting

I was always afraid of oil paint. This type of paint always resembles professionals on my mind. However, acrylics were not just for me, so I ought to try this one.

The above painting was my first attempt at oil painting. This painting also has taken me almost three months, but so much worth it than before. At this stage, I have finally found my path in paintings. I was meant for oil paintings. Their texture, finishes, character are just what I was seeking.

Closing

My painting journey was not the easiest nor the smoothest one, but rather the most stressful and struggling one. Yet, those processes are very much enjoyable. I never took any course or have someone guide me; I learned all of those from the internet and mostly from youtube.

This was clearly not the end but a start to my painting journey. I hope my story gave you some insights and motivation. Never wait for something to happen because they clearly would not. Let's start now!
